How to Spot Fake or Mislabeled Peptides in the Philippines

The Philippine research peptide market has grown faster than the number of suppliers who test what they sell. The result is predictable: vials that contain less than the label says, a cheaper compound sold under a more expensive name, and certificates of analysis copied from someone else's website. None of this is visible by looking at a vial. This guide covers the checks that actually work, in the order a researcher should run them, and the signs that a listing is not what it claims. For laboratory and research use only.

Start with the certificate, not the vial

A fake vial cannot be identified by its cap colour, label font or box. It can be identified by the absence of a verifiable certificate of analysis. Before anything else:

  1. Find the supplier's certificate for the exact compound you are buying.
  2. Open it on the testing platform's own site using the certificate ID. A JPEG on the store page is not verification; the lab's record is.
  3. Check the compound name, the purity figure and the method (HPLC for purity, mass spectrometry for identity where reported).
  4. Check the date. A certificate from two years ago says nothing about the current batch.

Seven signs of a mislabeled or counterfeit listing

  • The same certificate image on every product. Open two product pages. If the "COA" is the same file with a different name pasted on, the supplier has one certificate at most.
  • No milligram figure. A listing for "Tirzepatide vial" with no mg is either hiding a small fill or does not know what it is selling.
  • A price well below the market floor. Peptide synthesis has real costs. A 30 mg tirzepatide vial at a third of the going rate is usually a 10 mg vial, a different compound, or a diluted one.
  • Health claims and dosing instructions. Legitimate research-grade supply describes what a compound is and how it is studied. A listing that promises outcomes or gives a "protocol" is marketing a drug it is not licensed to sell, and its testing discipline is usually as loose as its copy.
  • Payment only to a personal account. A checkout through a payment gateway gives you a receipt and a dispute path. A GCash number in a chat gives you neither.
  • No physical address, no policy pages. No refund policy, no research-use notice, no contact page beyond a messaging app.
  • "Pharma grade" or "human grade" language. There is no such category for research peptides sold outside the pharmaceutical supply chain. It is a phrase used to justify a higher price, not a standard.

What you can check after the vial arrives

Most laboratories will not run their own HPLC, but a few checks are possible without instruments:

  • Seal and cake. The vial should be sealed with an intact crimp and the lyophilised powder should be a coherent white cake or fine powder, not a discoloured smear or a loose, partially dissolved residue, which suggests moisture exposure.
  • Reconstitution behaviour. Lipidated peptides such as tirzepatide, retatrutide and cagrilintide should dissolve in bacteriostatic water to a clear solution with gentle swirling. Persistent cloudiness or particulates suggest contamination or a different substance. See the reconstitution guide.
  • Label versus certificate. Match the lot or batch marking on the vial, if present, to the certificate.
  • Independent testing. If the study justifies it, services such as Janoshik and Finnrick accept samples from individual researchers. A single test is a fraction of the cost of a compromised study.

Why the most-searched compounds are the most faked

Tirzepatide, retatrutide and cagrilintide carry the highest prices and the highest demand, so they are the most profitable to counterfeit. In practice the two commonest frauds are under-filling (a 10 mg vial sold as 30 mg) and substitution (a cheaper compound sold under a more expensive name).
