What is Thymosin Alpha-1?

Thymosin alpha-1 (Tα1, thymalfasin) is a 28-amino-acid N-terminally acetylated peptide first isolated from calf thymus tissue in the 1970s, and produced synthetically for research. It is a fragment of the precursor protein prothymosin alpha. It is a different molecule from thymosin beta-4, the parent of TB-500, despite the shared name. It is supplied as a lyophilised research peptide in 5 mg and 10 mg vials.

How it is used in research

Thymosin alpha-1 appears in immunology research, including dendritic-cell and toll-like-receptor signalling models, T-cell maturation studies and vaccine-adjuvant work, with a clinical literature in several countries where it is registered under the name thymalfasin. It is not an approved medicine in the Philippines. It is sometimes ordered with LL-37 or KPV for immune-model designs, both of which are available on request.

Storage and handling
