What is Sermorelin?

Sermorelin is the synthetic 29-amino-acid N-terminal fragment of human growth-hormone-releasing hormone, GHRH(1-29)-NH2, the shortest fragment that retains full activity at the GHRH receptor. It was developed in the 1980s and was for a time an approved diagnostic agent in the United States before being withdrawn from that market for commercial reasons. It is the unmodified reference sequence from which CJC-1295 (no DAC) was derived by substitution. It is supplied as a lyophilised research peptide in 5 mg and 10 mg vials.

How it is used in research

Sermorelin appears in GHRH-receptor pharmacology, pituitary cell-culture work and as the reference comparator when studying stabilised GHRH analogues such as CJC-1295 and tesamorelin. Because it is unmodified, it is cleaved rapidly by dipeptidyl peptidase-4 in circulation models, which is the property that comparative stability studies are built around. Storage and handling

Frequently asked questions

Sermorelin, CJC-1295 or tesamorelin?

All three are GHRH analogues. Sermorelin is the unmodified 29-residue fragment; CJC-1295 (no DAC) is the same fragment with four stabilising substitutions; tesamorelin is the full 44-residue sequence with a trans-3-hexenoic acid group at the N-terminus. Which one a study needs depends on whether the design calls for the native sequence or a stabilised analogue.
