What cagrilintide is

Cagrilintide (development code NNC0174-0833) is a long-acting synthetic analogue of human amylin, developed by Novo Nordisk. Amylin is a 37-amino-acid pancreatic peptide co-secreted with insulin; cagrilintide is a lipidated, stabilised version engineered for a reported half-life of roughly seven to eight days. It acts on the amylin receptor family (amylin receptors and the calcitonin receptor) and does not act on the GIP, GLP-1 or glucagon receptors. It is supplied for research as a lyophilised white powder in 5 mg vials and reconstituted with bacteriostatic water.

How it is studied

Stand-alone cagrilintide work is amylin-pathway research. The larger body of literature, and the reason most laboratories order it, is combination models: cagrilintide paired with an incretin agonist so that the amylin and incretin pathways can be studied together. Tirzepatide is the usual partner because its own reference data is the deepest; retatrutide is used when the design also needs glucagon-receptor activity. The published record

Phase 2 data are published and phase 3 programs are ongoing as of 2026, largely in combination with a GLP-1-class compound. Cagrilintide is investigational and not an approved medicine. Stand-alone reference papers are fewer than for tirzepatide or retatrutide, so a laboratory planning an amylin-only study should expect to establish more of its own baselines.
